Frank Karlitschek is a long time open source contributor and privacy activist. He contributed to KDE and other free software projects since the end of the 90s and was a board member of the KDE e.V. He founded the ownCloud project and later the company with the aim to develop a replacement for cloud services like those from Google, Apple and Microsoft. When ownCloud no longer seemed the best tool for that job, together with most of the core contributors he forked and created Nextcloud where he continues to push for a real, privacy respecting alternative to proprietary cloud services for both home and enterprise users.
